The decision by Mr. Buck, a Republican, to resign next week rather than at the end of the year complicated what was already a rocky path for Ms. Boebert to secure his seat. The state’s Democratic governor, Jared Polis, quickly announced a special election would be held on June 25 to fill Mr. Buck’s seat. That left Ms. Boebert with a conundrum: If she resigned from her current seat in order to run in the special election, she would risk reducing the Republicans’ already razor-thin House majority by teeing up a special election in her current district, where a Democrat has a chance of winning. In 2022, Ms. Boebert nearly lost her district, which is on the Rockies’ western slopes, to Adam Frisch, a Democrat. If she had resigned by May 14, it would have given Mr. Frisch a shot at winning her seat in a special election.

The narrow margin in Congress leaves both major parties fighting fiercely for every available seat in 2024. “By Lauren Boebert district shopping and becoming a carpetbagger so she can keep her office in D.C., she has now become part of the swamp,” he said. Still, Boebert is joining a race that is practically guaranteed to elect a Republican anyway, said Galdieri. Before she switched districts, Boebert had apologized up and down Colorado’s 3rd district as part of her last-ditch strategy against Frisch. DENVER (AP) — President Joe Biden will try to turn Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado into the embodiment of Republican opposition to his agenda as he visits her congressional district on Wednesday. Biden plans to tour CS Wind, the world’s largest facility for wind tower manufacturing, in the town of Pueblo. The White House said the data indicates that Biden's policies are expanding economic opportunity. He spoke at a Tuesday night fundraiser in Denver, where he said Trump and Republicans wanted to abandon his administration's efforts. Biden also said Republicans want to cut Social Security and Medicare, benefits that are crucial for many elderly Americans.

Biden, who blamed Trump at a fundraising event in Denver on Tuesday for taking away women's right to an abortion, will visit a wind tower manufacturer in Pueblo, part of Boebert's congressional district. Biden, a Democrat running for reelection next year, has presided over a stronger-than-expected U.S. economy and big federal investments in infrastructure and clean energy, but the clean energy industry is now struggling with high costs. At the wind tower manufacturer, Biden will speak about clean energy investments and "highlight how self-described MAGA Republicans like Representative Lauren Boebert are threatening those investments, jobs, and opportunities," the White House said.

That's inspired Democrats to heavily invest in the MAGA Republican's defeat in next year's vote. Democrats have so far outspent Republicans on advertising by 100x, The New York Times reported. Democrats, including Frisch, a local businessman, have "already reserved $1.2 million in advertising for the race," which isn't until 2024, the Times reported, citing the tracking firm Ad Impact. That, according to the paper, is more than 100 times what Republicans have spent.

Rep. Lauren Boebert is shifting her campaign strategy as she faces another tough challenge in 2024. The change of heart comes after her close 2022 race and a Beetlejuice scandal that made national news. "Democrats certainly smell blood in the water," Boebert told the AP before a Lincoln Day Dinner in southwest Colorado. Frisch, her 2022 challenger, told MSNBC's Symone Sanders-Townsend that the Denver incident was "another notch in the belt of embarrassment." Next year, Boebert will also face several Republican primary challenges as she seeks a third term in office.

After Boebert won her last race by just 546 votes, she began revamping her campaign strategy. So-called ballot harvesting, which she's decried as an underhanded Democratic tactic, will be part of her campaign strategy. While campaigning in the district this election, Boebert seems “more empathetic" than her disruptive national profile. At events and debates in the last election, Boebert railed against then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who became a foil for bloated government, a broken system and Democratic demagoguery. After Colorado's largely city dwellers voted to reintroduce wolves to Colorado, Boebert has also proposed legislation to give ranchers greater recourse to defend their flocks.

A Trump-supporting social media influencer was sentenced to seven months in prison for conspiring to suppress the votes of possibly thousands of people who supported former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election. Douglass Mackey, who was 33 when he was convicted in March, was also ordered to pay a $15,000 fine. Mackey made podcast appearances and social media posts about those beliefs, prosecutors said. Prosecutors said that 99% of the texts received by that number were sent after Mackey first posted a deceptive Hillary advertisement from one of his social media accounts. Andrew Frisch, Mackey's attorney, told CNBC he remained "optimistic" about Mackey's prospects on appeal, which has not yet been taken up.

It is a problem that five U.S. state and federal judges are wrestling with as Trump faces four upcoming criminal trials and a civil fraud case. New York state Justice Arthur Engoron already has faced off with Trump on the issue. Trump has cast doubt on Chutkan's ability to give him a fair trial and called her "highly partisan." Ahead of his civil fraud trial, Trump, without providing evidence, accused the U.S. Justice Department of coordinating with New York state Attorney General Letitia James to damage his presidential campaign. One notable exception to Trump's criticism is the judge presiding over the classified documents criminal case in Florida.

In 2022, Rep. Lauren Boebert won her bid for reelection by less than 600 votes. The incident may have hurt her chances of retaining her seat in 2024, and could cost the GOP. Boebert's on thin ice with her constituentsFirst elected to Congress in 2020, Boebert won her election in part by painting her Democratic opponent as someone with a "socialist agenda" who wanted "more government control." In 2022, two years after Boebert won her congressional seat by more than 26,500 votes, the Republican legislator narrowly retained her seat against Democratic challenger Adam Frisch by fewer than 600 total votes. Transgender people in Denmark have a significantly higher risk of suicide than other groups, according to an exhaustive analysis of health and legal records from nearly seven million people over the last four decades. The study is the first in the world to analyze national suicide data for this group. Transgender people in the country had 7.7 times the rate of suicide attempts and 3.5 times the rate of suicide deaths compared with the rest of the population, according to the records analyzed in the study, though suicide rates in all groups decreased over time. And transgender people in Denmark died — by suicide or other causes — at younger ages than others. “This is beyond doubt a huge problem that needs to be looked at,” said Dr. Morten Frisch, a sexual health epidemiologist at Statens Serum Institut in Copenhagen and a co-author of the new study.
